Fabric Dyeing is the process of adding color to fabric with dyes. There are many techniques for the amateur dyer, from simple grocery store brands of dye to the more sophisticated Procion Fiber Reactive Dye process. Hand dyed fabrics have a depth and richness of color that commercial fabrics often lack. Hand dyeing your own fabrics is a way to achieve a look that isn't found in commercial fabric. Fabric can be found already prepared for dying and is often labeled "PFD", which means the fabric has been processed without any chemicals that may interfere with the dye. Safety is important so please wear a mask when working with powdered dyes.
